Despite the rain on day 4, the final day of the Sydney Test was set up nicely with a sporting declaration by South African Captain Graeme Smith.

Ricky Ponting took up the challenge scoring a thrilling 143 not out as the Aussies went on to win by 8 wickets. Set 287 to win from 76 overs, Australia reached the target with more that 16 overs to spare.

Ponting scored a century in both the innings in his 100th Test Match. He scored the winning runs with a cover driven boundary.

Ricky Ponting was named Man of the Match and Man of the Series.
