James Anderson must consider himself a little unlucky not to be selected for the Test squad. With his brisk action and late outswing, he would have been an extremely useful bowler in Indian conditions. However, with England having an embarassment of riches in the fast bowling department with the return of Simon ‘reverse swing’ Jones, it would have been hard for him to get a berth.

There was plenty of discussions around the spinning options. Monty Panesar, Ian Blackwell and Alex Loudon were all in the race for the spin bowling options. Both Panesar and Blackwell are left arm orthodox spinners while Alex Loudon is an off spinner. Panesar and Loudon have missed out.

Anderson loses Test place as Jones returns
James Anderson and Alex Loudon have been omitted from the Test squad to tour India, but they are the only changes from the party that lost 2-0 against Pakistan.
