Looks like the selection of Mitchell Johnson into the Australian one day squad has created quite a furore.

Johson is a strapping 24 year old left arm fast bowler from Queensland. There was some talk of him being faster that Brett Lee a couple of years ago.

He is in the squad to tour South Africa. However critics point to his relatively poor outing for the Australian team in New Zealand where he went for a lot of runs.

In the domestic one day competition he has had a poor return of just 8 wickets at 48.75 runs per wicket. He has conceded over 5 runs per over.

Geoff Lawson the former Australian fast bowler doesn’t think that he should be on the plane to South Africa & has said as much.

Trevor Hohns the chairman of selectors has returned fire.

“To criticise the selection of a young and up-and-coming fast bowler who is rated by most as an outstanding prospect of the future is purely publicity-seeking garbage,” Hohns said.
