Ashwell Prince produced a fine rear guard against, shepherding South Africa to 238 for 6 at the end of the first day, of the third cricket Test match against Australia. He was unbeaten on 79.

Shaun Pollock was the other not out batsmen with 4. South Africa were deep in trouble at 161 for 5, but a crucial partnership with Jacques Rudolph help South Africa consolidate their position.

Kallis was bowled by a sizzling in cutter from Brett Lee, whilst Rudolph did not pick Warne’s googly and edged to first slip. There appeared to be some doubt as to whether the snick carried.

Stuart Clark took two wickets, while Lee, Kasprowicz, Warne and Symonds took a wicket each.

All in all, it sets up an intriguing day 2 on a fast pitch.
