South Africa were looking to take the first innings lead against Australia in the 3rd Test against Australia. At the end of the second day, Australia were 247 for 7, which was a big improvement, as at one stage they were 105 for 5 (effectively 6 down, as Justin Langer retired hurt after facing just one ball in his 100th Test Match).

Makhaya Ntini took 5-80, as Mike Hussey compiled a patient 73, aided by Shane Warne (36) and Brett Lee (42 not out).

Earlier South Africa were all out for 303, with Ashwell Prince out for 93 and Nicky Boje for an entertaining 43.
